Data Protection

The Museums of the City of Linz have consistently taken data security and the protection of personal data very seriously and set great store by the observance of the relevant legal provisions. What follows below shows the principles that we are following in this process. 

Principles of Data Protection and Data Security
The Museums of the City of Linz explicitly accept and respect their visitors’ free and independent decisions with regard to their data.
The Museums of the City of Linz collect and process personal data only on the basis of relevant legal grounds (e.g. contractual performance, public interest, granting consent) and only to the extent required for this specific purpose. Personal data are stored only as long as is required for this purpose.
The Museums of the City of Linz treat your personal data confidentially and in full compliance with existing data protection regulations (especially the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the Data Protection Amendment Act 2018 (DSG 2018) and this declaration of data protection.

Evaluation of visits to
To enable us to improve our services on an ongoing basis, session data are stored automatically every time the website is accessed. The data are anonymised before evaluation (access statistic). The goal is to ascertain how often certain pages are accessed and whether crucial information is easily retrievable for users.

Access is monitored in two different procedures:

  • Software tools within the network of the City of Linz:
    The web server’s log books are evaluated. The Museums of the City of Linz are unable to link these data to any specific personages. No interlinkage with other data sources takes place.
  • Google Analytics:
    In addition to this internal evaluation, makes use of Google Analytics. Internet technology and the possibilities of IT applications are subject to rapid change. Google’s online tool can be relied on to represent the cutting edge of technology. It is therefore used as an additional source of information, e.g. to take the use of mobile devices into account.

In full compliance with the data protection recommendations, Google Analytics is used as follows:

  • The IP addresses of the visitors of are transmitted to Google Analytics in anonymised form.
  • The Museums of the City of Linz herewith point to the possibility of avoiding registration by Google Analytics: Google offers a deactivation add-on for browsers that prevents the implementation of Google Analytics as visitors surf the pages of the website. This add-on functions on any website, it prevents your access to the website from being captured by Google Analytics.
  • In compliance with Google’s Terms and Conditions, users are explicitly notified in the Imprint and the Privacy Statement that the website uses Google Analytics:
    This website uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service offered by Google Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics makes use of so-called “cookies”, text files that are downloaded to your device and that enable an analysis of the use you make of the website. The information generated by the cookies about your use of this website is then uploaded, together with your IP address, to a Google server in the United States and is stored there. Google will use this information to evaluate your use of the website in order to compile reports for the operator of the website about the website traffic and to provide other services related to the use of the website and the internet. Google will pass this information on to third parties where this is prescribed by law or where third parties process these data on behalf of Google. On no account will Google link your IP address to other data retrieved by Google. Although you can adjust your browser software to prevent the installation of cookies, we would like to point out that if you do so, you might not be able to have unrestricted access to all functions of this website. By continuing to use this website you agree to having the personal data captured by Google processed in the aforesaid manner and to the aforesaid purpose.
  • Information on privacy supplied by Google Analytics:

Use of Cookies
Our website makes use of cookies in order to be able to recognize visitors as they surf our pages. Settings such as the selection of the high contrast option or certain font sizes can thereby be retained across different pages. No sensitive information is stored in the cookies. The cookies are transmitted only to the server that supplies them and they are deleted when the browser is shut down.
